The forum, organized by the Department of Tourism (DOT-CAR), Office of Civil Defense (OCD-CAR) and the CRDCC was conducted to ensure that tourists coming to the region are safe and that effective emergency response mechanisms are in place and ready to be deployed during disasters.

The event is also part of the recovery program of the DOT-CAR who earlier reported a decrease in tourist arrivals during the first quarter of 2005.

Senator Richard J. Gordon was the guest of honor during the forum. According to the former Tourism Secretary, the Cordillera must be developed into the ultimate tourism destination because of its various potentials.

Although disaster mitigation and response remains a top program for the regional office, strengtening measures and extra vigilance is still a high priority
