Bag-iw - a blast from the 1990s
Back in the 1990's Bag-iw, a Baguio-based ethno-rock band produced some really cool songs by fusing ethnic musical implements with electric instruments. The combination is a fresh sound that gives you a head-bobbing tune with the nostalgia of highland gongs - an awesome combination!
Back in college I used to listen to their songs and was fortunate to be good friends with their bass guitarist -JB. Unfortunately the members of the band have gone their separate ways - some have become community leaders and advocates but most have remained artists.
Here is one song that was taped back in 1993
I don't know the title but the cut rocks!
JB, basol mo!

John, yup the term is "it's your fault". We have a private joke about each other- we blame each other for our "misfortunes". Hence, basol mo.

ReplyDeleteOmeng,
ReplyDeleteHere's the Bag-iw site. All you need to know about the group. Enjoy!
I once leaved in the Bag’iw brothers compound in Loakan way back 1997 to 1998….I was closest to Pops (who was then not performing with the band anymore), but since I got here in Dubai – I lost contact from them…I wonder if the Bag’iw band’s still performing. I want to be in contact with one of them, I wonder if you could share me Owat’s email address. That would be a big help. Thank you.
ReplyDeleteCathy,
ReplyDeleteThis link might help. I'll find out how to contact Owat.
