I got my driver's license!

Back in the Philippines they told us that to have a car in the US is a matter of necessity. I never took that seriously. I knew that mass transportation was available where I was going. There are taxis and buses. But I was dead wrong.

Everybody here has transportation. It does not matter if you have an old jalopy or the latest top-of-the-line sports car - everybody needs (say again - NEED) a car.

So, we went through the paces. First,we need to get a driver's license. The usual stuff - the written exam then the behind-the-wheel test.

The written exam went well. I nearly failed it. I was lucky by one point. The behind-the-wheel I flunked the first time. The 15 years of Philippine driving did not help out. It's a whole new world out here. Driving is a new experience. The road signs are the same but the paint on the pavement are different and the discipline is amazing. Drivers are really following the laws of the road. Most are careful. Philippine way of driving is - aggressive and defensive all at the same time.

So, I took the exam in Shafter, CA for the second time. After a few lane changes, right and left turns and stopping I passed.

Now, Phase II of the Plan - look for a car to drive. We are looking around for the best deal.

Watch out for that.

  1. Did you just use your rear view mirror to look behind you and to look on your blind spots? left and right sides? If that's what you did...you really are a trained Pinoy driver hehehhe

As you might have realized...you really beed to turn your head and neck to th eleft and to the right before changing lanes...ala Linda Blair in the "the Exorcist".. :-)
